Origin story...
If you like to hear the back story, read on. If not that's cool, you can find more on the AV family a bit further down the page.
And what does it mean...?
Our story (like any good one) starts a long time ago... but the short version is that we had a shared passion, an opinion on the current state of affairs and a desire to do better. The big question was how.
We wanted to make water safety information accessible, readily available but most importantly easy (and hopefully fun) to engage with. In the early 2000s Nick had proposed and developed an online teaching program for parents that could not access lessons so that they could teach at home. While this was a success in terms of reaching an audience it was not sustainable as an enterprise. Fast forward to the COVID pandemic and we found ourselves in a position to create content for Swimming teachers & Coaches as professional development. For Marcelle, Max and Nick it started to rekindle the idea of producing more online content that could help more people.
With a lot of back and forth we finally landed on the idea of a not for profit that could undertake the things that we wanted to do in a sustainable way well into the future. Aqua Veren was born. Borrowing the word 'Veren' from the ... it means to be drawn to, and do differently. To us the idea fo being drawn to water but taking a different path to others made the name but we also wanted to make sure that each thing we do could have its own identity. The first task we wanted to undertake was to create opportunity for more people to engage with water in a safe way so we wanted to offer a FREE program that would help people learn water safety and familiarisation which could lead to more skills and future enjoyment of water. The Swim Free Project is our first adventure with Aqua Veren. We hope that you enjoy it, support it and stick around for the next chapter.
